It’s “T for transgender” as
T-PARTY presents the results of CHERYL KING’s
ongoing workshops with transgender clients at Bailey House. The facility, on
Park Avenue between Central Park and Harlem, provides housing and support for
people living with HIV/AIDS, and advocates on their behalf. In this instance, we
get a glimpse into the world of “T-Gurls” and what they are all about.
The multimedia production is an entertaining combination of audio and video
clips, with live commentary by Ms. King, and in-depth conversation with some
T-Gurls. A T-Gurl is a biological male who identifies himself as a female and
dresses accordingly. Until now, they have been a rather neglected part of the
Left Out Festival’s featured demographic, the LGBTQ community. Not this year.
Topics included perceptions by others, dealing with your inner T-Gurl, fantasies
and fetishes, and the hopes and dreams of T-Gurls in NYC 2014.
CHERYL KING plans to continue her workshops with the Bailey House
transgender clients. She expects to have revised additional performances by
fall, and plans to include dance and spoken word. This project shows us yet
another color in the endless rainbow around us.
