There is much to be considered in the planning of a
FUNERAL OF GOD – cause of death, who can attend, open casket or
not, and philosophy behind the event to name a few. Writer and producer
Brian S. Brijbag uses a staged production as a metaphor for the grieving
process and its many facets. As the director and the cast contemplate these
issues, it becomes clear that grieving is a personal unique process – one that
we will all experience probably many times. And one for which there are no
one-size-fits-all answers.
FUNERAL OF GOD is an interesting concept but not well executed. The majority of the dialogue is inaudible; far too late the audience is finally given a clue as to what is going on; and the production is way too long to come to the conclusion that there are no answers. Those believing in the resurrection will applaud God for the decision to just disappear without all the fanfare.
