Abigail Duclos’ BLOOD ORANGE begins with what appears to be aimless ramblings of teenage girls. A touch of fantasy, a bit of exaggeration, tinged with underlying anger and a suggestion of experimental sexuality makes this seem like a “normal” coming-of-age play. But within minutes, you realize that many things have already gone awry and there’s little chance of getting them back on track. Lives of loneliness, betrayal, trauma, and sorrow bond these three, and reality is so harsh that it necessitates the creation of a new religion, a false God, and rituals that can only lead to disaster.

Kudos to the cast. Although difficult to identify with, each character reveals endearing qualities while simultaneously chilling your blood. Quite an accomplishment. BLOOD ORANGE is a high-energy production that keeps you on edge and questioning your own truth throughout its entirety.
