A little bit of old and a little bit of new, with lots of fantastic performances in between. There’s a dance for everyone in DANCES WE DANCE 2023 Fall Season. The 1995 September Sonnet choreographed by the late Anna Sokolow and beautifully performed by Francesca Todesco and Benjamin Cortes speaks straight to matters of the heart. In contrast to Erik Satie’s light-hearted Spring, Mark Bankin’s somber Elizabeth has three dancers (Kathleen Caragine, Colleen Edwards, Rosy Gentle) synchronized both in music and silence. The delightful Peek, choreographed and performed by Cortes, is an easily identifiable frantic interaction with technology, while Jim May’s Passage (also performed by Cortes) is a poignant remembrance of those lost in the pandemic. And there’s so much more! Perhaps Rae Ballard’s rollicking Just Dance says it all. The power of brilliant choreography, talented dancers with amazing command of their bodies, and accompanying music make for an evening of masterful entertainment. Check out www.danceswedance.org to keep track of their next venture.
